And I’m not just talking about the temp! It all started Thursday night with the tasting, featuring the wines of Saddlerock. We had a full room, and the weather made outside seating quite enjoyable. And the wines, oh, the wines. Very tasty, and reasonably priced, always makes for a great combination.
Not to get off track (OK, maybe it’s too late), but this coming tasting features wines from the same family, but a little higher end. The label is “Semler,” and we will be tasting a merlot, cab and syrah…and all delicious. There will also be a couple whites, including a chard lover’s chardonnay – rich, buttery and oaky. Although not technically from Semler, do we really want to split hairs? Or do we just want to drink good wine?
All right, I think I know the answer to that question.
Anyway, back to the present (or past, whatever). Friday night, Jeremy came to play, and he brought friends. Eric showed up again, “bangin’ on the bongos like a chimpanzee.” They sounded great, and the energy in the room was enough to get Amy up, who sang a couple songs, including “Blue Eyes Cryin’ in the Rain,” and then, when everyone was ready to pack up their instruments, she sat down and sang Janis Joplin’s “Me and Bobby McGee” a capella. Seriously. If that is not vocal talent, my friends, I don’t know what is. I won’t sing in the shower, by myself, with the doors locked and the shades drawn, let alone in front of a classy wine bar full of people.
Speaking of classy, Saturday night we were treated to the sounds of “2 the Ninez.” Wow! They shook The Grind, and we once again had a great crowd filling both the room and the deck. They danced, they sang, they drank wine. Most importantly, they drank wine. In fact, cleaned us out of The Girls in the Vineyard (our new Cabernet, that is delicious…obviously), as well as a couple other wines. Did I mention we are a wine shop?
Sunday night…well, no one showed up. Except Lou and his lovely wife (oh, and their obnoxious offspring). I kid, because I love. Good kids, not anywhere near as obnoxious as dad. But it is beginning to make me re-think the whole Sunday night deal. No one has shown up at Open Mic Night in several weeks, so we may bag it, close earlier on Sunday night, and focus our energy on the weekend. I think I can say with some certainty that you all agree (because you are sure not here drinking wine Sunday night?!). And I know it is a school night, so I won’t judge. Anyway, we will likely begin closing at 5 p.m. on Sunday, very soon.
Don’t forget…we have a Saturday beer tasting coming up, and a special December 2 wine tasting on an off-night. Mark your calendars, as it is the season to get out and party...um, I mean, celebrate the season. Whatever you want to call it, we will try to have as many opportunities to have a good time as we can provide, but it is up to YOU to come out and make them enjoyable!
OK, more later. Stop worrying, and start drinking. Come on out to 2 Wine Guys @ The Grind and let us pour you a glass.
